Jaw (TMJ) pain

Jaw pain can mean pain or clicking when chewing and yawning, tightness through the side of the face, or headaches that arrive alongside it.

What tends to cause it

Jaw pain often travels with neck tension and clenching, particularly under stress or with poor sleep. The jaw joint, the muscles around it and the upper neck all contribute, which is why treating any one of them in isolation tends to fall short.

How we treat it

Treatment includes hands-on work to the jaw and neck, plus strategies to reduce clenching and load through the joint. Where dental input is needed, we will say so and work alongside it.

What it often feels like

  • Clicking or catching when opening wide
  • Pain chewing or yawning
  • Tightness through the jaw and temple
  • Headaches around the temples
  • Waking with a sore jaw

Not sure if this is what you have? An initial assessment works that out before deciding how to treat it.
