Tendinopathies

Achilles, patellar, gluteal, rotator cuff and elbow tendon pain all behave in a recognisable way. The tendon warms up with activity, feels better mid-session, then aches that evening or the next morning.

What tends to cause it

Tendons become painful when load outpaces what they can tolerate. That usually means a recent increase in volume or intensity, a return after a break, or a change in surface, footwear or technique. The tendon is not torn or degenerating in most cases, it is overloaded.

How we treat it

Tendons respond to progressive loading over time rather than rest. We set the dosage, manage the aggravating factors, and track it properly so you are not guessing. It takes longer than most people expect, so knowing the timeline upfront matters as much as the program itself.

What it often feels like

  • Pain that eases as you warm up
  • Aching the morning after activity
  • Tenderness over a specific point on the tendon
  • Stiffness after sitting still
  • Pain that has built gradually over weeks

Not sure if this is what you have? An initial assessment works that out before deciding how to treat it.
